A Quick Flicker

We havd returned from Summer break to Dverse poetics. Grace has asked us to write a quadrille today, (a poem of exactly 44 words).
The word of the day is “flicker”:

Like the bill of a flicker,
Faster and faster;
Rose the stock ticker,
Climbing higher and higher!
My heart throb was pounding,
A great lusty fire,
A thrill ride resounding.
Heart beats beyond number,
Awoke me from slumber.
My dream was a bummer!

Arrgh!

    Great write indeed (and I bounced along with its wonderful energy).
    Sorry about the dream though.

    Oh another fun one! I LOVE smiling at the end of your poems. Just starting my reading this morning…havine been with grandkids all yesterday. So FUN to begin with yours! πŸ™‚

    Nice turnout for everyone with this anniversary prompt–quadrilles can be challenging. You start to write, ideas flow, you get up to speed, and wham, it nearly finishes itself. Your piece kicks off my fascination with dreams, the whole landscape of possibilities; smile.

    I knew there would be a twist! You had our hearts racing and bums slipping off the edge of our seats. Word #44 was a clever break from form … Arrgh! Better luck tonight!
