It sure feels good to join the Dverse Poets Pub again. Tonight, Mish has given us a wonderful prompt from the talented photographer, Sharon Knight. Her works are posted here: Sunearthsky. I have chosen one called the Prairie Italianate.
Welcome to the Tumble Inn
Set a spell and feel the breeze
You’re always welcome to drop in
Stay until you feel at ease
Years ago we opened wide
The finest hotel ever seen
But since I-90 passed us by
Things have gone from thick to thin
Sign the journal, sit a spell
Fix your mind on days ago
Though there’s not a soul to tell
Good spirits put on quite a show
The Tumble Inn’s a sunny day
Your every whim is our delight
Then at evening, go away
We’re only here until the night
Love the grim humor in this… I almost saw Bates’ motel in this… but without an interstate you’re gone
Oh well, it’s a friendly kind of place
If this old girl could speak, I’m certain this is what she would say. Thank you!
Thanks Sharon, and thank you for the beautiful photos!
Nice to see you back, Walter, and with such an imaginative poem. Buildings like that have their stories to tell.
Thanks Victoria, it’s nice to have the time and energy to be back with you all
Haha!
“Stay until you feel at ease.”
Might be awhile!
Like the Hotel California
Nice sound. The highway going around a town can change its fortunes.
Thanks Frank, it’s that way here
It’s always nice to read your poems with their gentle humor. I like the yarn you spun from the fine old bones of that home.
Thanks, it’s good to have the time for fun
I like this version of a “Hotel California”…and it seems a bit friendlier.
Thank you for joining in with us. 🙂
You can check out anytime and leave
I saw Hotel California here, ‘some dance to remember, some dance to forget’…
Can’t dance at all. I’d have to dance to learn how
Just stay clear of Hotel California. It’s not worth it 🙂
I have to agree with Bjorn about the grim humor. I thought of the Bates’ motel and Hotel California came to mind, too.
Reminds me of the Eagle’s song…Hotel California. Love it!
Dwight
Thanks Dwight
